Signs Your Forklift Brakes Need Service

Remove the forklift from operation and have it inspected when braking becomes unpredictable or noticeably different. A brake problem can become more dangerous when the forklift is carrying a load, operating near pedestrians or working on an incline.

Forklift Parking-Brake Repair

A parking brake must hold the forklift securely when it is parked, including on an incline when the equipment is operated within its approved limits. A stretched cable, worn linkage, damaged lever or worn internal brake component can prevent the parking brake from holding correctly.

Signs Your Forklift Needs Steering Repair

Steering changes should not be treated as a normal consequence of an older forklift. Difficulty turning or controlling the machine may indicate worn mechanical parts, hydraulic pressure loss, damaged steering components or an electronic fault.

Hydraulic and Electric Forklift Steering Systems

Some forklifts use hydraulic pressure to operate the steering system, while electric forklifts may use electric steering motors, controllers and sensors. A proper diagnosis must account for the type of equipment and the way its steering system is designed.

For hydraulic steering problems, we inspect the steering cylinder, hoses, fittings, control components and available hydraulic pressure. For electric steering problems, we inspect the steering motor, wiring, sensors, controls and related electrical components.

Rough-Terrain Forklift and Telehandler Steering Repair

Rough-terrain forklifts and telehandlers use steering and axle systems designed for uneven surfaces and demanding job-site conditions. Depending on the equipment, these machines may use two-wheel steering, four-wheel steering, crab steering or multiple selectable steering modes.

We diagnose steering cylinders, linkages, axles, hydraulic components, sensors and steering controls on rough-terrain forklifts and telehandlers. We also inspect related tires, wheel hubs and bearings when they may be contributing to poor control or uneven steering.

How do I know when forklift brakes need repair?
Warning signs include longer stopping distances, grinding or squealing noises, a soft or hard brake pedal, pulling to one side, dragging brakes and a parking brake that will not hold. Remove the forklift from operation when it cannot be stopped safely.
Can you repair forklift brakes at my location?
Many brake inspections, adjustments and component repairs can be completed at the customer's location. Extensive brake, axle or wheel-end repairs may need to be completed at our Victorville shop.
Why is my forklift difficult to steer?
Hard or delayed steering can be caused by low hydraulic pressure, a leaking steering cylinder, worn linkage, axle problems, a damaged steering motor, faulty sensors or an electrical control problem. The steering system must be inspected to identify the cause.
