Electric forklifts may use lead-acid or lithium-ion traction batteries. These battery types use different charging systems, operating procedures and electronic controls and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Lead-acid systems may develop problems involving connections, corrosion, charging performance or battery deterioration. Lithium-ion systems may involve a battery-management system, communication faults, charger compatibility or protective shutdowns.

We identify the installed battery system before diagnosing battery-related performance problems. Lithium-ion battery packs should not be opened or internally repaired unless the work is specifically authorized and performed by qualified personnel.

Forklift Battery Charger Problems

Electric forklifts carry substantial current through their battery cables, connectors, contactors and power circuits. Loose, corroded, overheated or damaged connections can cause voltage loss, intermittent operation, heat and unexpected shutdowns.

We inspect accessible cables, connectors, contactors and forklift-side power connections for damage and proper operation. Compatible damaged components should be replaced before the forklift returns to regular service.

Electric Forklift Drive-Motor Problems

The drive motor converts battery power into forklift movement. Motor, controller, wiring, encoder, brake and drivetrain problems can cause weak acceleration, reduced speed, intermittent travel, fault codes or a complete loss of movement.

We diagnose the complete travel system to determine whether the problem involves the motor or another component.

Hydraulic Pump-Motor and Lift Problems

Electric forklifts normally use an electric motor to power the hydraulic pump. If the forklift travels but will not lift, the problem may involve the pump motor, controls, contactors, wiring, hydraulic pump, valves or another hydraulic component.

Electric Forklift Controller and Contactor Problems
