Many no-start conditions, tune-ups, cooling-system repairs, leaks and external component replacements can be completed at the customer's location. Internal engine repairs and complete rebuilds normally require our Victorville shop.

Changes in engine sound, temperature, exhaust or power should not be ignored. Continuing to operate a forklift with a developing engine problem can increase damage and create an unexpected breakdown during a shift.

Forklift Engine Diagnostics

A no-start, loss-of-power or rough-running condition does not automatically mean the engine needs to be rebuilt. Similar symptoms can be caused by electrical faults, fuel-delivery problems, ignition components, cooling-system issues, sensors or internal engine wear.

We evaluate the symptoms, inspect the related systems and perform appropriate testing before determining which components require repair.

Forklift No-Start and Hard-Starting Problems

A forklift that cranks but will not start may have a fuel, ignition, compression or control-system problem. A forklift that does not crank may have an electrical starting-system fault rather than an internal engine problem.

We inspect the starting, ignition, fuel and engine systems to determine why the forklift will not start or why it requires repeated attempts.

Forklift Overheating and Cooling-System Repair

Forklift engines often operate at low speeds, under heavy loads and in dusty or confined environments. A restricted radiator, damaged hose, faulty thermostat, worn water pump, coolant leak or internal engine problem can cause the engine to overheat.

We inspect the cooling system for leaks, restricted airflow, damaged components and circulation problems. Cooling-system repairs may include radiators, water pumps, thermostats, hoses, clamps, belts and related engine components.

Forklift Oil Leaks and Lubrication Problems

Engine oil protects internal components from heat and friction. A leaking gasket, seal or connection can lower the oil level and allow engine damage to develop. Oil that is contaminated, overheated or not changed at appropriate intervals can also reduce engine life.

We locate engine oil leaks, inspect affected components and recommend the appropriate gasket, seal or component repair. We also inspect the engine for signs that low oil or poor lubrication has caused additional damage.

Loss of Power and Rough-Running Forklift Engines

A forklift that lacks power may struggle to move a load, climb an incline or maintain normal engine speed. Rough running, hesitation and stalling may be related to fuel delivery, ignition, compression, airflow, exhaust restriction or engine controls.

Diesel forklift engines depend on proper compression, fuel delivery, cooling, lubrication and airflow. Hard starting, excessive smoke, loss of power and rough running may be caused by fuel-system problems, restricted filters, cooling-system issues, worn engine components or other mechanical faults.
